The ADA Title II web rule
- Final rule, Federal Register, April 24, 2024. Adds 28 CFR 35.200 and adopts WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

The extension was made by an interim final rule published in April 2026. Check ada.gov for any later change.
Technical standard: WCAG 2.1 Level AA
- Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, W3C Recommendation.
- WCAG 2.1 Quick Reference, a filterable list of every success criterion.
- WCAG 2.2, the newer version. Not the Title II standard, but many buyers ask for it.
Federal procurement: Section 508
- Section508.gov, the federal guidance hub.
- Access Board, ICT standards, which set the federal technical requirements.
Private businesses and schools: ADA Title III
- ADA Title III, DOJ, covering public accommodations, including private schools and businesses.
- 28 CFR Part 36 (Title III regulations), eCFR.
State laws
Several states have their own accessibility or disability-rights laws, which can apply in addition to the ADA. We do not list them here yet. Ask counsel to confirm your state's requirements.
